Can Herbs Really Help Blocked Fallopian Tubes

Are you tempted to buy hundreds of dollars to use a product that someone told you could help you clear your tubes? Read through this important interview discussing what you can do about blocked tubes.

Debbie: What can you tell us about women with blocked tubes? Can you help them? :. I know this can be avery disheartening diagnosis. Because if this diagnosis is true then there is only one way you can become pregnant and that is through IVF invitrofertilisation.

Motherhood

However we find that many times when there has been a diagnosis of blocked tubes, pregnancies still occur naturally.

Can Herbs Really Help Blocked Fallopian Tubes

Debbie How in the world does that happen?

Well, if the test is actually giving an inaccurate diagnosis, or a false positive, the tubes can actually be absolutely fine. You see, there is one test to check the tubes by putting dye through them and seeing if the dye comes out the other end of the tube. This can be done in two ways. 1) a laparoscopy where you are put under general anesthesia and they check the tubes while you are under. 2) a hysterosalpingogram alone. This is essentially the same test but they do it while you are awake and you avoid a surgery. It is done in a radiology department where you would have an ultrasound done.

In this test, as I said, dye is put through the tubes to see if they are clear or patent. If they are, the physician or radiographer will see a "spill" into the peritoneal cavity. This means they can see the dye exiting the tube.

If they don't see this spill, the diagnosis can be a blocked tube.

Debbie: So how can this end up being a "false positive" i.e. a diagnosis of tubes blocked but they are really not blocked?

: Sometimes when the dye goes through the tube the tube can actually spasm and make it very difficult or impossible to get the dye through the tube. This can happen in both the laparoscopy while you are under anesthetic or in the HSG while you are awake.

Some people will tell you that the tubes are less likely to spasm with a Laparoscopy because you are under general anesthetic. But this simply isn't true. The movement of the egg through the tubes is done by cilia which are are created through smooth muscle contractions. This means its not voluntary, it happens automatically. So whether you are awake or asleep shouldn't impact smooth muscle contraction, unless a person is extremely stressed or trained by biofeedback to effect this type of muscular contraction.

Debbie: So sometimes due to either procedure the tubes can spasm and then they might think the tubes are blocked but they really aren't.

That's right. And a good thing that can happen with either of these procedures is, if the tubes are blocked the procedure may actually unblock the tubes due to the pressure exerted on the blockage while the dye is injected. This appears to be less likely to occur if there is a history scarring or damage to the tubes by Chlamydia infection Or even damage from a previous surgery. If there is just a mucous plug for example, in the tubes then the dye may help to unplug the tube so to speak.

Debbie: So scarring in the tubes can be a serious problem. What is this caused from?

Scarring can be caused by an infection in or around the uterus. The sexually transmitted disease known as Chlamydia, if left untreated could damage the tubes or endometriosis can also cause damage to the tubes as well. It doesn't mean though if you have had an infection or endometriosis that your tubes will definitely be blocked. As a matter of fact I know of women who have had Chlamydia or endometriosis and they didn't have blocked tubes and had children naturally so it really depends on the individuals case.

Debbie: What else could cause blocked tubes if they are truly blocked?

Well, I have seen an increased incidence in some smokers. The tar from the nicotine decreases the cilia's ability (in the nose) to keep the toxins out of the body. Since there is cilia in the fallopian tubes that help move the egg and fluid through the tubes, it is possible that the toxins from cigarettes could impact this cilia as well and keep them from functioning properly which in turn could make the fluid more gluggly and mucousy in the tubes.

Debbie: Okay, got it. So if the tubes are blocked can herbs clear them?

I am a herbalist and I know of no known herbs that can unblock tubes. Ignore the marketing ploys out there to get you to buy their herbs to unblock tubes. There are a few companies out there claiming that their herbs can unblock tubes but when I have contacted them for proof and told them I am a herbalist they never got back to me. Hmmm. Makes me suspicious that they are just preying on people who are in a desperate situation.

However there are a few ways that natural therapies may be able to help.

1) If there was a false positive, or simply if you were diagnosed with blocked tubes, before rushing in to a procedure, take some time to prepare your body and mind. If the body is a bit out of balance, the information that you receive from seeing someone who specialises in natural fertility and the herbs to help optimize hormone balance could help to improve your situation and help the body create healthier eggs and endometrial lining which is likely a good step toward conceiving.

2) If the tubes are blocked and IVF is the only option then herbs and supplements have been used to help couples prepare for IVF to hopefully optimize their chances of conceiving. Best to give it atleast 3-6 months before the procedure for it to work best.

3) There are some programs such as http://www.clearpassage.com that Claim they may be able to unblock tubes with certain deep tissue techniques, but there again is no way to know if they treatment caused the tubes to be clear or if the tubes weren't blocked in the first place.

4) Get yourself as healthy and fit as you can to become pregnant which in turn can improve your cellular health. Your eggs, ovaries, fallopian tubes, follicles and the semen and sperm are all made up of cells so improving over all cellular health and optimizing hormone balance is your best way forward to becoming pregnant.

Debbie: So can you ever know for sure if the tubes are blocked?

Well, you can't know for sure, but if you have the procedure done a second time, a few months apart (preferably not under anesthesia again) and it is still comes up that your tubes are blocked then you have to wonder. The body changes so much though. Don't give up hope, just do the best you can to prepare to become pregnant either naturally or with IVF.

Perimenopause Pregnancy - What Are the Odds and Risks When You Are Over 35?

A woman's body undergoes so many changes in a woman's lifetime. Oftentimes, these changes and symptoms indicate the age of a woman or the transition stages that she goes through to wit: when a girl hits her teens-she experiences menstruation -indicating that her body is ready for childbearing. When a woman hits her late 30's onwards-she experiences the first signs of perimenopause which is defined as the process of change a woman feels leading to menopause. Perimenopause lasts no less than two years to over eight years. Then in her 50's a woman goes through her menopause-which is the end of her menstrual period. So, the various phases a woman's body goes through cannot belie her real age.

Perimenopause is the period when a woman's body experiences a decline in the production of ovum (egg supply) both in quantity and quality. This results in a change in hormones and premenstrual syndrome symptoms (PMS) that are more intense or of a different nature than previously felt. Perimenopause marks the beginning of the end-beginning of the decline of a woman's child bearing stage.

Motherhood

What are the odds of a woman getting pregnant when she is over 35?

Perimenopause Pregnancy - What Are the Odds and Risks When You Are Over 35?

The woman's ovulation and menstruation becomes irregular when a woman's supply of ova or egg continues to decline. The decline in a woman's egg supply results in diminished fertility and is most noticeable after the mid 30s.

In their 40's, the menstrual cycle of a woman becomes increasingly irregular and may do so until menopause and this also compromises fertility. Often, health-conscious women in this age group do not seek prenatal care when they become pregnant; they often assume that the skipped period which is the first sign of pregnancy is instead the first sign of menopause.

What are the risks of a woman getting pregnant when she is over 35?

As an outcome of irregular production of hormones Perimenopausal pregnancy becomes high risk-officially, pregnancies at age 35 are high risks. However, if a woman is fit and healthy, she may enjoy the energy usually associated with a younger woman, if and when she becomes pregnant at age 35 and over. Doctors say that a woman's physical well-being during pregnancy depends more on who she is than how old she is. Nevertheless, a woman should be aware of chronic conditions that complicate pregnancy where it first becomes evident. These chronic conditions can be diabetes or high blood pressure. Also, even if one is in tip top shape, starting at the age of 35, there is an increasing risk for pregnancy-specific conditions including gestational diabetes.

Pregnancies at 35 and over, have the odds of giving birth to a baby with a chromosomal problem such as Down syndrome where a baby is born with an extra chromosome. Getting pregnant during perimenopause also gives the risk of miscarriage from amniocentesis, which is a diagnostic test given to look for chromosomal defects by examining the amniotic fluid. This test calls for the fluid being removed through a needle inserted in the mother's abdomen. Although the risk is still minimal, the risk is significantly higher when compared to a woman in her twenties. Other risk a woman may encounter at perimenopause pregnancy is Placenta Previa, where the placenta grows near the cervix and causes bleeding.

Perimenopausal pregnancy when over 35 and over 40, medically speaking, is the most difficult age for pregnancy. At this decade, a woman has used up the highest-quality ova, slowing down conception. The ova that are now left in the body are those that take the longest to respond to the body's cues for release, and which also don't function well during fertilization. This condition or state of the ova further raises the risk of chromosomal abnormalities and miscarriage.

It is with interest to note however that while is now at this age that is hardest, to get pregnant, the likelihood to carry multiples - in itself another high-risk pregnancy -- even without medical intervention is not far-off. A possible reason could be that the shift in hormone levels during menopause stimulates the release of more than one egg at ovulation -- like a natural fertility drug.

Standard tests on pregnancies become risky when given to pregnant women over 35 since it entails the removal of tissue from the placenta risking a miscarriage albeit a low level.

Pregnancy after the age of 35 may worsen chronic conditions as well as early signs of aging, such as stiff, sore joints. Varicose veins may multiply and worsen. A slower metabolism may result in much weight gain, lethargy and sluggishness.

So, would you dare defy the odds and face the risks and get pregnant when you are over 35?
Later pregnancies have physical downsides as doctors are quick to point out but a list of other advantages balance the risks. For starters, greater financial stability, may enable one to focus more on motherhood. Having proven themselves professionally, women in their mid-thirties and over, may be more flexible and patient having faced more challenges in their lifetime.

Keeping The Mother-Son Relationship Healthy

Throughout the history of Mankind mother-son relationships have been considered special. Many women say that having a son gives them a sense of completeness. One woman affirmed, "It is as if through him I have found the missing part of me."

Patriarchal societies place greater value on sons. At times 'male child-centeredness' can become obsessive. In India, special rituals are held to invoke Divine intervention in granting a son. Sons are required to maintain lineage, to care for parents in their old age and ensure the salvation of souls after death. As such, boys receive preferential treatment, with best of food, health care, education and protection. This 'son- preference' has led to extensive female foeticide in several countries, resulting in a skewed sex ratio.

Motherhood

Researchers of Richmond University in Virginia found that women develop a set of 'maternal neurons' that operate like 'bad mother' or 'good mother' switches in the brain. These clusters of brain cells created during pregnancy and switched on after birth, are responsible for good or bad parenting. A certain number of neurons have to be switched on for 'good mothering' to take place.

Keeping The Mother-Son Relationship Healthy

A team at Yale University uses brain scans to study areas of the brain that drive good or bad mothering. Dr. James Swain says, "We have identified certain areas of the brain where there is a link between neuron activity and measure of 'adequate' or 'inadequate' parenting."

So far no one has come up with a scientific explanation why a mother loves her son more than her daughter. Evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins in his book "The Selfish Gene" suggests that this maternal devotion is a selfish strategy to ensure her genes live on. She knows that after a certain age, she cannot reproduce. So she protects her male offspring as he will eventually spread her gene pool.

When a mother has this protective love for her son she becomes fiercely protective of his life, crippling his emotional growth and tying him to her apron strings as 'Momma's Boy.' This tendency has been documented even from Biblical times in the story of Rebekah, who encouraged her favourite son Jacob to steal his brother's blessing through impersonation. But she had to suffer heartbreak as he was separated from her for many years, to protect him from Esau's fury.

The Greek mother Thetis dipped her son Achilles in the magical River Styx, to make him invulnerable. But of course she left him with an unprotected heel.

Just like mother-daughter relationships, close mother-son relationships are important in the early formative years. Infants begin to show distress when separated from their mothers. But every mother should bear in mind that this is only a temporary phase. Physical distancing should start early in the case of a boy because of the erotic potential of such a bond. Mollycoddling is harmful to the emotional health of both mother and son.

The Oedipus Complex is a well known phenomenon. It is based on the Greek myth in which Oedipus considers his father a rival for his mother's love. So he kills him and marries his mother Jocasta.

The period between 18 months and three years is when a child becomes aware of his own sexual identity. He develops a concept of himself by exploration of his own body. Between three to five years, libidinal and ego development takes place. This can well be defined as the Oedipus phase, when a child has the desire to possess his mother, and even begins to see his father as an opponent. This is a passing phase, and a wise mother will gradually wean him away from such feelings until he begins to identify with his father.

Reasons for a mother's abnormal feelings:
• When a mother has experienced abandonment from her father in her own childhood, she may be overprotective of her son, to compensate for those feelings of abandonment. She wants her son to remain in that oedipal phase for her own fulfillment. Sons cannot be surrogate husbands or fathers; neither are they playthings for her pleasure.

There are many great men who have suffered due to this over-protectiveness. Andrew Carnegie's mother made him promise that he would not marry until she died. It must have been a frustrating experience. He eventually married one year after her death, at the age of 52.
Dwight Eisenhower also had an obsessive mother. Once when he was quarantined for Scarlet Fever, she used a ladder to climb up and see her son daily through a window.

However, a mother who suffers abandonment from her father in childhood could also experience difficulty in bonding and become abusive to her son.

• If a wife's emotional needs are not fulfilled by her husband either because of his career, or his inconsiderate nature, or due to infidelity, she may turn to her male child. She may shower him with kisses or cuddles or verbal professions of love. This form of 'emotional incest' seeks to alienate the father from her son's love. Actual incest is not ruled out.

• Single parents either unmarried or widowed, may also show overindulgence and overprotection of their male children, to compensate for the lack of a father.

Destructive Effects of such Dysfunctional Relationships:

On the Child:
1. Over-dependence on mother leads to stunting of emotional and mental growth. He is unable to face life's challenges, has behavioural problems and is often considered a 'sissy.' The mother does not want her son to grow up and plans to keep their relationship exclusive.
2. Inability to maintain healthy relationships with others. This may even damage his sexuality and destroy his ability to have a happy partnership. He will avoid commitment. If he marries, it may end in divorce due to constant interference by his mother. He will not have the courage to stand up to her and protect his wife from constant bullying by his mother.
3. A manipulative seductive mother and a passive distant father can turn the boy into a homosexual.
4. Smother love can prove to be a dangerous emasculating attachment, rendering the son sexually dysfunctional.

On the Mother:
1. A woman who transfers her time and priority to her son will lose out on her husband. There will be a lack of intimacy and many sexual problems. Her husband will begin to look elsewhere for his fulfillment. He might become a workaholic or forge extramarital liaisons or indulge in drinking or gambling.
2. A mother whose life revolves around her son is lulled into a subconscious assurance that he will never leave her.
3. An incestuous relationship may develop. Inappropriate feelings for her son is a form of child abuse and can be demoralizing.

How to maintain a healthy mother-son relationship:
• Respect your son's personhood. Treat him with deep respect and help him develop his personality.
• Raise your son to be a well balanced human being mentally physically and spiritually. 'Smother love' kills. So don't hold on too tightly.
• Define healthy boundaries and know when to physically distance yourself.
• Parenting is a joint venture. Fathers must not be excluded from the relationship. They too should be allowed to bond with their sons. Parental responsibilities involve equipping them with strategies for living such as respect for elders, respect for the opposite sex, discipline, love and good example. The aim should be to foster maturity, independence and self reliance in adulthood.
• Do not neglect your husband. Take time off from mothering for 'togetherness' with him. Talk, care, and be intimate. Let your love for each other grow as you share responsibility for his rearing.
• Be a good and worthy role model. Let him learn from you how to respect and treat his wife when married.
• Always remember that the child is not your husband. So don't force adult responsibilities on him.
• Change your focus. Use some time to care for the needs of your other children. Find new activities to keep your mind off your son.
• Pray and ask God to give you the wisdom to handle your emotions with responsibility and self respect.

As the feminist Naomi Lewinsky said, "We shouldn't need our children. We shouldn't merge with them except when they are infants. We shouldn't let our messy feelings leak all over our children's development. We should raise them to become separate individuals."

Book Summary: Use Your Brain to Change Your Age - Written by Dr Daniel Amen

We are just scratching the surface on brain research. The power of the brain is absolutely awesome. Dr. Amen is a leader in this field and this book is a testimonial of his research results. Alzheimer's, Dementia and depression are all horrible diseases that really do not get much attention yet they destroy lives. IMHO, Dr. Amen's research will continue to bridge the gap and hopefully help people reduce their chances of getting these diseases.

Why is this important to me?
My goal in doing this book summary is to provide value because I do not want to waste your time. A picture is worth a thousand words. If you were to look at two brain SPECT images comparing heavy alcohol use with Alzheimer's, they would both look like Swiss cheese. A normal brain SPECT scan looks whole. What this is depicting are areas of non-activity in the brain.

The effects of alcohol use and Alzheimer's look very similar. Brain health is directly tied to overall health. The brain uses 30% of the energy consumed by your whole body and through proper nutrition and exercise, we can enhance brain health.

Use Your Brain to Change Your Age is a collection of real patients and real results. These patients typically were overweight and had horrible diets. We will examine the what, why and how to brain health. I think this title is telling because most people are pretty vain when it comes to age and if it helps sell books then so be it. This book needs to be read and taught to the masses. The problems with our sick care system are only getting worse and the real solution lies with the individual taking control of their own health. This book is a great stepping stone in that direction.

1. What is it? In particular, I am talking about SPECT imaging. Dr. Amen uses brain imaging to show his patients their brains vs. a normal brain. A normal brain SPECT scan shows a solid brain in all directions. This signifies brain activity. If the scan looked to be filled with holes then those holes represent non-activity centers in the brain. Additionally, brain health typically can be reflected on the outside. Obesity has a major negative effect on the brain. Most of the patients Dr. Amen profiles in the book were overweight and had negative looking brain scans. Dr. Amen argues that your brain health can be enhanced and effectively reverse aging. Aging in this sense is sharpness of mind and body. One way to be younger is have more energy and increase your activity. These are looked at in the how to section.

2. Why is it important? The answer to this question is self-evident unless you want to die a horrible death. Brain disease is hard on the patient and really hard on their families. The responsibility for your health falls on your shoulders. Most people are looking for a miracle drug or somebody else to take care of them. This is not going to work and has not worked in the past.

3. How does it work? Dr. Amen goes into great detail on the how to but for the sake of time let me summarize the majors. First, diet is a key component to brain health. Dr. Amen recommends low Glycemic foods which he details in the book. For simplicity, eat vegetables and cut down on sugar/junk food, alcohol and soft drinks. Drink a lot of water and increase your daily activity. Exercise is a big deal and has a positive effect on brain health. The brain runs on Glucose and Oxygen so if you increase you oxygen intake through exercise and activity, your brain will benefit. Also, protect your head. If you do high impact sports then wear a helmet. Dr. Amen has worked with several NFL players and the damage to their brains is significant. Through diet, exercise and in some cases Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, he has been able to improve brain function significantly. The brain is a muscle so it needs to be exercised as well. Continuous learning is critical for proper brain function.

Read this book. The How To's are very straight forward and easy to do. One thing I recommend for all the people who work out of their house and have a treadmill, set up a treadmill desk and work from there. If you work 8 hours per day then work for 2 hours on the treadmill at a slow walking pace. This will increase circulation, reduce inflammation and increase oxygen to the body.

I hope you have found this short summary useful. The key to any new idea is to work it into your daily routine until it becomes habit. Habits form in as little as 21 days. One thing you can take away from this book is brain health affects everything. One quick way to enhance brain health is increase your activity and change your diet. Start slow and do something once per month. Also, if you are not a believer in continuous learning then change that belief otherwise you will be left behind. Use web sites like the KHAN Academy to enhance your learning. A simple 10 minute video per day can help.
